Bach’s Six French Suites, BWV 812–817, are among the fundamental works of the keyboard repertoire. They have long been particularly popular with pianists and were also highly regarded during Bach’s lifetime. This revised Henle Urtext Edition, edited by Ullrich Scheideler, takes into account the complex source history of the suites. Numerous copies made within Bach’s circle contain variants that may be authentic. Minor variants are documented in footnotes, while significant differences are presented in full.
